I Spy Design

Smashing Magazine, as I've mentioned in the past, is one of my favorite blog feeds for it's useful articles, design links and resources. A new article post triggered my design nerves this morning: "Crank Up Your Design Radar". It reminds us that design is everywhere, from the grocery aisles to your airline flight ticket to the mall parking lot signage. Often when we're not in "design mode" as we're working, we turn off attention to design. But it's everywhere--good and bad! Society is influenced in so many ways by design. When you're shopping for a box of cereal or a case of beer, do you notice when your favorite brand has updated their logo? Do you consider whether
it's a positive update or whether it's a set back? When you're out and about living your life, take note of all the design staring you in the face. Note what you like, what you don't like and why you think it's successful or not. It helps you to become a better critic as well as a better designer.
